Introducing Locovote: Making Municipal Data Accessible

/ 2 min read

What is Locovote?

Locovote is a web application that makes it easy to explore and compare data about Massachusetts towns and cities. Instead of hunting through dozens of government websites and spreadsheets, you can find information about school performance, municipal finances, tax rates, and demographics all in one place at locovote.com.

Why did I make Locovote?

When I was considering where my family should put down roots, I spent hours analyzing MCAS data (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System test scores) to get a better sense of different school systems. After going through this process, I realized other families might be looking for the same information. So I decided to make my work available to everyone by building a tool that would save others the time I had spent.

What can you do with it?

With Locovote, you can:

  • Compare your town to neighbors: See how your municipality’s school spending, tax rates, and MCAS scores stack up against similar communities
  • Track trends over time: See how your town’s finances and educational outcomes have changed year over year

The goal is simple: give you the data you need to be a more informed participant in local government, whether you’re a voter, parent, or just curious about your community.

Visit locovote.com to explore your municipality’s data, and feel free to share feedback or contribute to the open-source project.
